Overview

I'm a huge fan of the SSL UF8 and its sister software SSL 360. Couldn't imagine working without them.

While the defaults got me a long way, I've developed the need to customize some things over time. Namely, bouncing projects.

For simple macros, the SSL 360 interface is intuitive and you shouldn't have issues. However, if you want to run more complex (multi-step) macros, you may run into timing issues.

My Bounce Quick Key would fail on my first few attempts because it would try to press the "return" key before the button was available.

I gave up on it for a few weeks until I remembered a trick from phone numbers on the web.

Phone Number with Extension Trick

If you touch a phone number on a website from your iPhone, iOS is smart enough to launch the Phone app and dial the number. Where this breaks down is dialing extensions. If you have an extension and put it right after the phone number, the dialing behavior will run through all the numbers in sequence. This enters the extension before the operator has had a chance to say "If you know your party's extension, please dial it now."

To work around this, a simple hack has been embraced. The comma character. If you put a few commas between your number and your extension, you create a slight delay that allows the operator to initiate. The more commas you use, the longer the delay.

Delay macros with the control key

With a theory in hand, I set out to find our own "delay" character. After a bit of digging, I found that the control key does nothing when pressed alone.

I re-wrote my macro with a bunch of control key presses, and voila! I can now bounce Logic projects by pressing a Quick Key on my UF8.

How To

Launch SSL 360
Click on SSL UF8 in the sidebar
Select your Layer
Click the pencil icon next to the Quick Key you want to edit
1. Type: Command + A
2. Type: Command + B
3. Type: Control x 60 (yes, 60 times)
4. Type: Return
5. Type: Control x 60 (yes, 60 times)
6. Type: Return
Click Close
